As time has turned back an hour, the leaves have fallen, first frost has come to Virginia and points north, garden beds are laid to rest, pumpkins are now in pies or the compost bin and hibernation begins….. the show must go on for the Honey Dewdrops!    Yes, the show WILL go on and we are ready to play for you and your friends and family!  We’ve just returned from another tour to the northeast where we traveled 4,000 miles in 2.5 weeks and now we’re pumped for more, more, MORE!

We want to take a minute to thank the folks who put us up or fed us on our journey and to those whose encouragement kept us going:  Kristen & Tim, Whitney, Elise and Studio 99, Jeff from NH, Jay and the Red Door, Landace and friends, Alex, Jason, Mason, Daniel and Dream Away staff and everyone who sent messages to us along the way.  You all are the best!

During the month of November we are doing a little giveaway as part of a promotion for our record, If the Sun Will Shine. We want to email you our version of “Long Black Veil” if you’ll do a review of our record either on iTunes or CDbaby.  Send us an email with “Long Black Veil” in the subject and we’ll get you the track.  Also, t-shirts are flying out the door!  Until we get our merch store online, you can email us your size and the color (green or blue) you’d like and we’ll make the exchange- Twenty- five dollars and you’ve got yourself a sweet, organic, locally silk-screened, made with love and water based inks t-shirt.

As we shift into October, we wanted to send out our current show schedule for the month and present some new happenings in our sweet world.  First!  We have our 2nd edition of t-shirts, printed and ready for our tour (see bottom of newsletter).  We are offering two colors this time around: A mossy green and a blue- more sizes AND ‘The Honey Dewdrops’ with silhouetted honeysuckle is now on the back of the shirts.  Twenty-five dollars gets you a 100% organic cotton, made by the hands of our friends t-shirt which is a must-have, paired with a long-sleeve shirt underneath, for the fall!  We will have our merch site set-up soon for purchases online, but if any of you are interested before-hand, send us an email and we’ll work with you to get one to you and yours.

Second, we will be competing for a chance to play on Mountain Stage (an NPR distributed radio program) the weekend of October 10th and 11th.  Along with 11 other finalists, we will play on the 10th at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, West Virginia where one act will be picked for the broadcast on October 11th.  Tickets for the October 10th finals are available HERE and to find a radio station near you for the broadcast, look HERE.  We will be sure to send out a newsletter if we are picked for the broadcast which will air in the month of November.

While we are home, we are so thrilled to be playing some shows in our area!  After October 11th, we hit the northeastern routes for a few weeks to experience a taste of New England during its finest time of the year.  We will notify you of those dates as things get closer.  In the meantime, if you are in the Virginia area, come on out to a show while we are here!  As always you may email us if you have any questions about these shows.

Looking towards a brighter future:  In the coming months, be on the watch for our blog updates, new t-shirts- now even softer than ever, a storefront on our website so you can purchase these fine items as well as new live video footage and lyrics to our songs.  Let the progress begin!

Our record, If the Sun Will Shine, has been selling and selling and we want to thank you all for that!  We sold out of t-shirts and are getting to the bottom of the barrel with our cds- almost time for a reprint!  Keep spreading the word and don’t forget, you can give our tunes a review on either cdbaby or itunes.

Our travels this summer were great- the messages and support from all over brought us sunshine in the rain and we look forward to the continuing momentum.  We couldn’t do it without you- we love to hear from you, keep it up!

We have been on the road now for over 3 weeks- from Virginia to our current city of Kansas City, KS and onward to California.  We just wanted to send out a hello and happy summer to all of you.  Also, if you are not caught up on what we are “dewing,” you can stop on over to our blog here or you can access it from our website under the “blog” listing from the homepage.  We are keeping an almost daily journal on our travels and shows so YOU can be there in spirit with us!

The road is a great place.  So many friendly people and delicious food that we’ve never had the chance to try.  Quirky pets, spontaneous jams with new friends and some great down time to explore these new places are keeping our spirits high.  We hope you too, are having an adventurous or at least relaxing summer this year.

Welcome to our new, official website designed by our friend Tim Owens. We are very excited to bring you weekly news on our musical endeavors, tour information, photographs, new tunes, and all the information YOU need to stay informed.

On this site, you will find links to our Myspace page, Facebook page, Sonicbids EPK, our email address- so that if you just want to say hello, you can! Join our mailing list to get our up-to-date information in your inbox- it’s as easy as entering your email on the home page. We will post all of our tour dates and new photographs as we get them.

We will be continuing to update the site as we get used to things and work out all the kinks, but for now- we are LIVE AND ONLINE!!!

In no order:

1. Devon Sproule, www.devonsproule.com – Our hometown lady tore it up on Saturday night with her new tunes from her newly, anticipated record “Soy Saint George”- A blend of many genres, Devon lights up the stage with her songs, humor and liquor flask! We are proud to call Charlottesville home after her performance.

2. 3 Penny Acre, www.3pennyacre.com – This bluegrass quartet of folks are extremely talented with tight harmonies, great songwriting, and if that wasn’t enough, the gift of guitar building. We shared an awesome jam in the hotel lobby with them- They are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet and we’re hoping to see them on many festival stages to come- won’t be long!

3. The Lost Pines, www.lostpinesband.com- Dynamic 6 piece bluegrass band from Austin, Texas. Fabulous songwriting and again, really stunning 3 part harmonies. We felt a call to them as they sang about the blue ridge and couldn’t help but support them- and you should too!

4. Trent Wagler & Jay Lapp, www.trentwagler.com – Male duo from our neck of the woods, we hadn’t met them until this conference but had been hearing their names forever! Their setup harks back to the 30′s and 40′s brother duets with some real energy. Also, they treated us to some great jamming in their hotel room and out in the lobby- real, genuine people.

5. Creaking Tree String Quartet, www.creakingtree.com – The name says it all. This string band from Canada writes tunes that paint pictures and walk the line of “newgrass.” We had to see them more than 3 times because we couldn’t get enough! Super talented and also a hit at the conference, we enjoyed their writing and covers of Bill Frisell, Bill Evans, and Edgar Meyer tunes.

6. Parkington Sisters, www.parkingtonsisters.com – This group of 5 sisters really do take the stage with a force to be reckoned with, and they really are sisters. We saw them a number of times as well- 5 part harmonies, violins, cello, guitar, and keys, they write well and have very unique vocals.

7. Ginny Hawker & Tracy Schwarz, www.ginnyandtracy.com – This duet has been around a long time having started part of the movement of folk music, having been apart of The New Lost City Ramblers and epitomizing southern harmony duet singing. We feel so fortunate to have met them and attended their workshop this past weekend. They are very nice folks and everyone can find so much to learn from their music and experiences.

There were lots of musicians we met and played with that were all very kind. We had a great time this week and are already looking forward to next year’s conference.
